Louisiana man Joshua Michael Hakken broke into the Florida home of his mother-in-law, tied her up and then abducted his two young sons from her care. The boys were taken away from Hakken and his wife, Sharyn Patricia Hakken, last year. Police believe that Hakken, who is described as an “anti-government protester,” is armed and that his wife is with him.
According to the sheriff’s office in Tampa, Fla., there have been ongoing issues with Hakken since he went to an anti-government rally in Louisiana in June of last year. Officials said he was arrested at the rally on multiple drug charges, according to Fox 8.
“Both suspects are anti-government and have attempted a previous abduction at gunpoint in Louisiana,” according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. “Both subjects are considered armed and dangerous.”
After the children were taken away from the couple initially, they were place in a foster care facility. It is believed that the couple then went to the foster center while armed and tried to break in. The children were sent to live with their grandmother in Tampa sometime in the past few months.
“Somehow they found out where the kids were and an Amber Alert is being issued now,” said Detective Larry McKinnon of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The missing children are two-year-old Chase Hakken and four-year-old Cole Hakken. They were last seen wearing pajamas and both have brown eyes and brown hair. The FBI has been brought in on the case.
