As questions about the 2nd Amendment and gun control rights swirl around the country, one Kentucky sheriff is making it very clear where he stands on the issue. As reported by conservatie blog RedState, Jackson County Sheriff Denny Peyman will resist any federal legislation that would result in gun ownership bans or orders of firearm confiscation.
“My office will not comply with any federal action which violates the United States Constitution or the Kentucky Constitution which I swore to uphold,” Peyman said. “Let them pull that stuff in other places if they want, but not in Jackson County, Kentucky.”
Awr Hawkins of Breitbart.com wrote in a post yesterday that when the sheriff says things that indicate his powers supersede state or federal regulations it “drives gun-grabbers batty because he says them with the conviction that rests on knowledge, and he has no intention of backing down.”
After a number of recent shootings, including last month’s massacre in Newtown, Conn., guns have been flying off the shelves in record numbers as concerned citizens are looking to protect themselves literally and figuratively against possible increased federal regulations.

Some would argue that the recent wave of gun violence should lead to more regulation, not less. It is safe to say that Sheriff Peyman is not one of those people. Politics aside, the sheriff feels that his authority reigns supreme and he fully expects to use that authority to keep guns in Jackson County.
Reportedly approached by liberals within the “gun-grabbing” world since he first promised no gun control in his county, Peyman told them plainly: "You are never going to pull guns out of Jackson County."
Mr. Peyman’s comments have led people on both side of the issue to take the debate public on - where else? - Facebook.
