On Sunday’s Face The Nation, the growing divide between mainstream, establishment Republicans and Tea Party favorites became even wider.
Appearing with Chuck Schumer, John McCain expressed his displeasure at recent comments made by Ted Cruz regarding gun control. Cruz, along with several other far right up-and-comers, indicated a few weeks back that he would filibuster any gun control legislation that he feels is too intrusive on citizens’ Second Amendment rights. McCain and Schumer, who come from a time when filibusters weren’t utilized with such regularity, believe that any and all gun legislation suggested should make it to the floor for a vote.
“Please let us go to the floor. If we go to the floor I am hopeful that what I call the ‘Sweet Spot’ – background checks – can succeed. We’re working hard there,” said Schumer.
McCain agreed. “I don’t understand it," he said.
“The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand,” McCain added.
