Internet radio host Adam Kokesh is planning a Washington DC protest march that will cause quite a scene if it comes to fruition.
According to Salon, Kokesh is trying to get 1,000 people to march from the Virginia side of the Potomac River into DC while openly carrying loaded rifles. The march would take place on July 4th, 2013. The protestors may not face problems in Virginia where gun carrying laws are less stringent, but they would likely run into problems in DC, where carrying guns openly is illegal.
“This will be a non-violent event unless the government chooses to make it violent” Kokesh says on the event’s Facebook page.
Political activism is nothing new for Kokesh. The former marine was discharged in 2007 for violating the military’s code prohibiting political activity while in uniform. Once discharged, Kokesh took to the radio to share his political views. He is highly active in the antiwar movement, and supports both Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party.

Kokesh is calling the independence day protest “an act of civil disobedience.”
“We will march with rifles loaded & slung across our backs to put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated & cower in submission to tyranny,” he says. “We are marching to mark the high water mark of government & to turn the tide.”
Kokesh emphasized that if the march is stopped, protestors would be”returning with the resolve that the politicians, bureaucrats, & enforcers of the federal government will not be welcome in the land of the free.”
