Deputies say a store manager shot one of two would-be burglars after the teens broke into his smoke shop in Harris County, Texas, late Wednesday night, thinking it was empty because it was closed at the time.
According to TheBlaze, the manager of the Smoke Box in Houston took out his gun to try to protect himself and his store as the unidentified men tried to rob the shop. One of the suspects was also carrying a gun.
Sgt. John Hernandez with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told KTRK-TV that one of the suspects was shot in the head and taken to Ben Taub Hospital.
Both suspects attempted to run, deputies say, but Precinct 3 deputy constables caught up to them. One of the suspects reportedly pointed a gun at a deputy, who fired three shots, but no one was hit.
Both suspects were eventually taken into custody.
Constables were investigating to see if a third suspect may have been involved in the burglary attempt, but the sheriff’s office says it turns out there was no additional accomplice in the incident.
The 19-year-old who was shot in the head is expected to survive, and the manager was not injured, deputies said.
