Several months ago, gun rights activists and Iraqi veteran Adam Kokesh called on his fellow gun rights advocates to perform an armed march on D.C. The plan fizzled out, but that didn’t stop Kokesh from making a one-man protest.

Kokesh recently posted a video in which he loaded a shotgun with the D.C. Capitol building in view. He later wrote, “I committed at least four felonies this morning and got it on video.”

In the video, Kokesh gives the following speech while loading shotgun shells: “We will not be silenced, we will not obey, we will not allow our government to destroy our humanity. We are the final American revolution. See you next Independence Day.”

And that’s it. The 23 second video is rather brief, presumably because Kokesh and his cameraman had to quickly hide the shotgun after filming the video in order to avoid earning a pair of handcuffs. It’s hard for police to disperse hundreds of protestors without looking oppressive, but arresting a lone gunman standing in the streets of D.C. would be a piece of cake.

In fact, arresting Kokesh should be a little bit easier with this video. Police have cuffed suspects for uploading videos of their illegal activities in the past. After all, video footage of a crime is essentially evidence and a confession rolled up into a single YouTube clip. It might be a bit tricky for D.C. police because Kokesh works out of the neighboring state of Virginia, but Kokesh isn’t necessarily out of the fire. At any point Virginia and DC police could arrest him for the rather overwhelming pile of evidence that he committed several felonies.

What do you think of Kokesh’s one-man protest? Was it commendable that he stood up for what he believes in? Do you think it was silly for Kokesh to upload footage of himself committing major crimes? Will the next video of Kokesh involve police hauling him off to a squad car?
