Georgia Mom Tanya Mount Banned From School After Facebook Post

| by Allison Geller

Tanya Mount, a mother in Hepzibah, Ga., was banned from the grounds of her disabled daughter’s elementary school, where she was a volunteer, after posting a picture of her concealed weapons permit on Facebook.

Mount was unexpectedly issued a no-trespass warning from her daughter’s school, McBean Elementary, from the Richmond County Board of Education police, reported Guns.com. Having never had an issue with the school, the warning was a shock — as was the reason why.

“The principal is scared of you and she doesn’t want you on the grounds,” Blount said, recounting the conversation with a school board official. “I ask for what? And he asks, were you in the Army and I said yes. He’s like, do you have a concealed weapons permit? I said yes.”

While Mount suspected that she had become persona non grata due to her Facebook post, she didn’t have confirmation. A reporter from Richmond County’s News Channel 6 asked the principal, Janina Dallas, if the trespass order was indeed issued because of the Facebook post.

Dallas said that yes, it was.

“It is my duty and responsibility as the principal of this school to ensure the safety and security of all of our faculty, staff and students,” responded Dallas.

Mount maintains that she isn’t a threat.

“I’m not a criminal, I’ve never been to jail, I’ve never been arrested,” Mount said. “I was like what is this for.”

Mount got permission from the school district to transfer her daughter from McBean to another school, reported Augusta County’s news channel WRDW. Nevertheless, she is still angry about the way she was treated.

“I feel like a criminal,” Mount said. “I want to be heard. I want a public apology.”
