| by Dominic Kelly

A Chicago gang member accidentally shot and killed one of his own while waving his gun around at a local Walgreens store.

Richard Magnan is a member of the 2-6 street gang, and after a night of drinking on July 4, he and other gang members walked to the parking lot of a local Walgreens. Around 1 a.m. on July 5, Magnan, who has a number of facial tattoos, was waving around his gun and accidentally shot his friend Joel Bentley in the abdomen. Magnan reportedly fled the scene, and hours later, Bentley died at a local hospital.

Officers arrested Magnan on Monday after he confessed to accidentally shooting Bentley. Reports say that Magnan previously served eight years in prison for a 2003 murder.

Magnan has now been charged with involuntary manslaughter, and a judge set his bail at $3 million.

The incident involving Magnan was one of 82 shootings over the holiday weekend, 14 of which were fatal.
