A Florida woman allegedly shot her 7-year-old grandson during the night after she placed a chair against her bedroom door and thought she heard an intruder moving it, police say.
Linda Maddox, 63, was watching her twin grandsons overnight in her Tampa home on Monday.
She placed a chair against her bedroom door for extra protection while she slept. When the chair began to move just before 1 a.m. on Tuesday, she told Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies she thought it was an intruder.
She shot her grandson Tyler Maddox once in the chest with a .22-caliber revolver that she kept by her bed. They boy is now in critical but stable condition at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Maddox was not arrested and no charges have been filed. Deputies continue to investigate the incident.
