A Georgia ex-cop who was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman with his firearm had his guns rights restored by the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles.
Former officer Dennis Krauss responded to a domestic violence call in December 1999. Instead of taking away the husband, he asked the victim to take a ride in his car.
According to ThinkProgress, he told the victim she could be arrested and go to jail or she could have sex with him instead. His words were “[w]e can go to the motel or you can go to jail,” according to the court opinion.
At the motel, he told the woman he wanted to anally penetrate her with his service revolver. She refused and cried. “Krauss then pushed her back, pulled off her pants, and had sex with her,”according to court documents. He then drove her back to her home.

He was convicted of sexual assault against a person in custody, but this may not be his first offense.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Krauss’ “record was filled with allegations of misconduct: that he beat a prisoner so severely the man’s brain bled; that he threatened to fabricate charges against a suspect so he could sleep with the man’s wife; that he pressured at least 10 women for sex to avoid arrest.”
But in July 2013, Krauss’ right to carry a firearm was restored.
An investigative report from the Journal Constitution says Krauss is one of 358 violent felons who have had their right to carry a gun restored in a six-year period. Those convicts include 32 people convicted of killing someone and 44 who committed sex crimes. Some regained gun rights after being convicted of armed burglary, robbery or aggravated assault, ThinkProgress reported.
