A member of the Maryland House of Delegates is slated to hold a “Gun Rights and Liberty BBQ” next month in an unusual effort to raise funds for his 2014 reelection campaign.
Delegate Don Dwyer (R – Anne Arundel) has said the event will also serve “as an organized effort to defeat the anti-gun legislators across the state who voted for and supported” Maryland’s recently passed gun control legislation.
Among some of the items up for grabs during next month’s auction include AK-47 and AR-15 assault weapons – guns which were used during the violent Sandy Hook Elementary, Aurora, Colo., and Texas District Attorney shootings.
Both weapons will no longer be for sale in Maryland come October – when the state’s gun law takes effect.

“The right to keep and own firearms is the fundamental basis of liberty that the founding fathers recognized in this country,” Dwyer told Fox 5 Washington in regards to the controversial fundraiser. “If a person cannot own a firearm, you have no liberty. The new law is no law.”
This isn’t the first time Dwyer has attracted a storm of controversy. He is currently facing up to a year in jail and a $1,940 fine for a 2012 drunken boating accident.
Dwyer has said the incident – which included a 5-year-old girl sustaining a fractured skill – is partially the result of his colleagues supporting a gay marriage bill.
