A Georgia business owner is requiring all of his employees to be armed.

Lance Toland, of Lance Toland Associates, is making it a requirement for his employees to obtain a concealed carry license, WSB-TV reported. Once they’ve completed that task, he presents them with a gun known as the judge.

Toland is in the aviation insurance business and has several offices across Georgia. He said he believes a gun is one of the most effective self-defense weapons.

“Everybody has one of these in their drawer or on their person,” Toland told WSB-TV. “I would not want to come into one of my facilities. It's a 5 shot .410, just like a shotgun and you call it hand cannon.”

Toland said he came up with the new office mandate after hearing about recent home invasions in the Atlanta area.

“They all had their conceal carry permit within 3 to 4 weeks of me announcing that this was something you had to do,” he said. “With the presentation of their license, they all got a 4/10 judge pistol.”

Toland said the new rule was a matter of employee safety.

“I have a number of offices and most of my employees are women,” he added.

Andrea Van Buren, one of the agents with the company, said the rule would be great for other companies, if employees are open to it.

“As long as they are willing to get the training, become an expert and if you pull it out, you have to be ready to use it,” she said.

Toland added that many of his clients love the new mandate.

“A lot of my clients are high fiving when they hear this,” Toland said. “They think it's the best things for a company to mandate gun ownership and be responsible.”
