A 3-year-old girl was accidentally shot in the head by her 4-year-old brother on Sunday morning in Lorain, Ohio.

The little girl is in critical condition at a local hospital, according to the Lorain Police Department.

The girl's mother called 911 at around 10 a.m. on Sunday and told the operator about the shooting, but the mom couldn't check the daughter's injuries because she was alarmed by the child's bleeding (video below).

According to, the Lorain Police Department said the kids were playing alone in a room when the boy accidentally shot his sister. There were three other people in the house at the time.

The Lorain County Prosecutor is investigating the shooting to see if charges should be filed.

WKYC reports that the kids' father Morales reportedly told police that two black males came to the door of the home, fired their guns and ran away. Morales claims one of the bullets hit his daughter.

However, the child's mother Angelica Melendez told police that Morales had a handgun at home for protection. She heard a loud bang from the children's bedroom and found her daughter bleeding. She believes her son found the gun, but thought it was a toy.

The boy was able to identify the handgun to police.
