Arizona Widow Shoots Robber, Chastises Him During 911 Call (Video)

An Arizona widow shot and subdued a robber after he made the mistake of breaking into her home.

The 47-year-old woman, Cynthia, immediately armed herself with a .38 caliber handgun and hid inside her bathroom when she heard someone rattle the handle of her front door one morning. By the time 20-year-old Michael Lewis broke in, Cynthia had already called 911.

“They've tried my front door, my front door, and now they're trying to break in my back gate,” Cynthia said during the 911 call. “I have a gun in my hands. I'm terrified.”

During the call, the dispatcher attempted to reassure Cynthia, but she begged for emergency responders to arrive as soon as possible.

“Hurry, hurry!” Cynthia said. “They’re coming right now, please, please.”

During the call, Lewis broke through Cynthia’s window using a garden tool. Screaming can be heard, then the phone’s dial being pushed and finally a gunshot.

When Lewis realized he was shot, he yelled at Cynthia, then began to apologize.

Here is their exchange (as transcribed by NY Daily News):

"(Expletive.) What was that? What was that? What was that? (Expletive) did you do?” Lewis screamed in pain.

“Did you think you could beat me half to death?” the woman tells the crook.

“I'm sorry. I'm sorry,” the wounded man says.

“What did you come in my house for?” she asks, the phone still connected to 911.

“I don’t know,” the man says.

“I shot him,” she breathlessly tells dispatcher. “Don’t get up or I’ll shoot your ass again!”

In the remaining recording of the 911 call, Cynthia chastises Lewis as emergency responders arrive.

“You bet you’re sorry you nasty thing!”

Police later reported that Cynthia did everything she was supposed to: arming herself, hiding and calling 911.

Lewis survived the shooting after one month in the hospital. He pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and aggravated assault.
