Alabama Couple Uses Shotgun To Stop Home Intruder

An Alabama couple fought off an intruder in their Avondale home by threatening him with a shotgun until police arrived. The burglar, 36-year-old Michael Jones, allegedly burst into the couple’s home after following Samantha Cart while she was out walking her dog. The intruder apprehended Cart in the hallway, throwing her to the ground.

“My arms were pinned under me. There’s nothing I can do to him. I thought if I just keep screaming and screaming Caleb is going to come in here,” Cart said to WVTM-TV.

Caleb is Samatha’s husband, who also happens to be the owner of a shotgun. Caleb was asleep at the time of the intrusion, but he heard Samantha’s screams and rushed to see what was the matter.

“At first he was just pushing me back into the room, so I pinned him up against the wall and then he pushed me back further into the room,” Caleb said, according to the Blaze. “And then I put him in a headlock, got him to his knees and then he got rolled out of it and got back up a couple more times, and then he ended up crashing into the closet and tearing everything down and put a hole in the wall.”

Caleb contained Jones with his shotgun until police arrived, arresting the suspect on charges of first-degree burglary. He is being held on $60,000 bond.
