2011 Smashes Sales Record for Guns
This was a banner year for guns -- 2011 is set to smash the record for gun sales.
The record for a single year was set just last year, when the FBI reported that 14,409,616 background checks were requested. In 2011 that figure will top 16 million. FBI spokesman Steve Fischer said just 1.3% of background checks result in denial of a weapon.
With a week left in December, the FBI said the monthly record has already been broken, and that was only set last month when 1,534,414 background checks were requested from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
CNN writes:
Two days before Christmas, NICS ran 102,222 background checks, which was the second-busiest day in history. The one-day record was set this year on Black Friday, the big shopping day following Thanksgiving, with 129,166 searches. By comparison, the previous one-day high was set November 28, 2008, when gun dealers made slightly less than 98,000 requests for background searches.
The NRA said more people are flocking to guns for self defense.
"I think there's an increased realization that when something bad occurs, it's going to be between them and the criminal," NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told CNN.
However the Brady Campaign said the number of people owning guns is actually going down.
"The research we've seen indicates fewer and fewer people are owning more and more guns," said spokeswoman Caroline Brewer. "All the trends indicate the number of Americans who own guns has declined."
She added, "It would appear because of fear-mongering by the NRA since (President Barack) Obama's election that people are adding more guns to their arsenals out of fear Obama and the Democrats will take away their guns, which is absurd."

1. Guns sales ARE up because of a NUMBER of things.
- a. GUN OWNERS know about Obamas PREVIOUS GUN VOTING RECORD PRIOR TO BECOMING PRESIDENT. You Obama drones can whimper about his not being antigun, but his VOTING RECORD HISTORY PROVES that he IS against civilian arms. YOu dont have to agree, but its the FACT. He CANT take our guns away because the LAW of this land DOES NOT ALLOW him to. Simple as that.
- b. NEW gun owners are exploding in numbers. Sorry you anti gun whackjobs but its a FACT. I know probably a dozen people who NEVER owned a gun before who have bought guns and gotten carry permits. They will tell you there are TWO reasons for this....one being Obama's antigun VOTING RECORD PRIOR TO BECOMING PRESIDENT....the second being CRIME and massive layoffs of law enforcement because of budget issues.
- c. PREVIOUS gun owners are also buying guns for the same reason...the budget is killing many local PD's and they are laying off LEO's by the hundreds and thousands leaving US to have to defend ourselves and our families.

Today at 51 yrs old I just bought my first firearms, as I exited the gun shop I felt proud to be an American. I exercised my right to bear arms, my right to protect myself and family, my RIGHTS period.
The sales person who sold me the guns informed me over 2,000,000 guns were sold in December 2011, breaking all records. I ask him why he thought there was this type of activity. He replied " People think it could start gettin crazy real fast real soon".
For the first time in my life I am now armed, beyond my fist and knuckles. I was compelled to do so.

No, you exercised your right to KEEP arms, to BEAR arms is a whole new ballgame! I hope you fully understand that if you so choose to bear arms you are going to be undertaking a HUGE responsibility!
In no way am I trying to discourage you to BEAR arms! I truly hope you will; providing you have the right characteristics to do so, but you must think that one through, at great length and fully.
Everyone has this right, but few who choose to carry it out fully understand the responsibilities and possible consequences of doing so. Be sure you are one of us few; if you don’t understand what I am trying to tell you without me just coming right out and saying it you are probably not quite ready to start “packing” just yet.
Find someone who has done this for a long time, do you know an officer of the law or a friend who has packed for a long time? If so have a private and personal one on one with them, ask them what I mean. Some things you need to learn from someone you trust.
I wish you luck, safety and that you become skilled with this, not just with your aim but with your mind.

Roger that Truth for Life -- and congratulations. I don't know what type of weapon you purchased, but Google around for a good price on ammunition and practice. I would recommend a concealed carry course and complete knowledge of the laws and use of deadly force to go with that practice. Learn to disassemble and clean your weapon and get hardwired to its use -- as if it was an extension of yourself. Enjoy.

A history lesson for "state of reason" who apparently has not graduated from high school yet.
In the early 1900’s there are several historical instances of leaders that insisted on the disarmament of their people. Their names should be familiar to you: Vladimir Lenin, Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler. All of these men enforced disarmament on their people. All of them are known as some of the most sinister men in history. Notably, Hitler could never have achieved as much as he did without civilian disarmament. He disarmed his people, used the Hitler Youth program to brainwash the young, and “cleansed” his nation, as well as conquered territories of the “undesirables,” whom he referred to as “untermensch” or subhuman. The unarmed civilians were an easy target for his armies, and the SS was used to intimidate and control other Germans and prevent dissension. In retrospect, people lament the atrocities that happened under Hitler, but the German people then never saw it coming. They had been seduced by a charismatic leader, who convinced (and when necessary coerced) them to give up their weapons. The Nazi reign of terror began with false news reports on the Jews, Bohemians and Gypsies who were said to be arming themselves to overthrow the "New World Order" and Hitler demanded that all good people register their guns so that they wouldn't fall into the hands of "terrorists and madmen". Right wing fanatics of the "Old Order" who protested firearms registration were arrested by the S.S. and put in jail for "fomenting hatred against the Government of the German people". Then the Reichstag (government building) was blown up and Hitler ram-rodded an "Emergency Anti-Terrorist Act" through Parliament that gave the Gestapo extraordinary powers. The leader then declared that for the well-being of the German people, all private firearms were to be confiscated by the Gestapo and the Wermotten (federal law enforcement and military). When several local ministers spoke out against these atrocities, they were imprisoned and never seen again. In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated’ people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Actually, gun laws under Hitler were loosened for everyone but Jews. No Jew was allowed to own a gun. But, this is beside the point. If you read any very recent history, like say the past 3 years, you'll find that federal gun laws have loosened under Obama at virtually every opportunity. He has not signed a single law restricting gun rights in any way. Gun sales are up because people like you don't bother fact checking the propaganda mailed to you by the NRA and posted on crazy right wing sites. So you actually believe your rights are being restricted so you buy up a stockpile of guns.
Actually, state of reason, it remains to be seen just how deep ObOzO was involved with Fast and Furious. It was definitely able to be defined as 'under the radar'...so its very possible that he knew about it.
Secondly, OboZo is pushing for a UN Small Arms treaty and refusing NOT to include civilian arms. This would OVERRIDE our 2nd Amendment...or so he THINKS...so saying that he hasnt signed anything into 'law' is completely meaningless given how badly he wants that treaty ratified.
He has not signed a single law restricting gun rights in any way [??] Hmmmm, was that "over the radar, or under the radar?" You might want to ask Sarah Brady what he meant by that. Perhaps keeping a government data base of semiauto rifle sales in all of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas -- a rather large swath of the U.S. when you look at the map -- was a more "in-your-face" gun law. Further, you know that he will lay low, as he told Sarah Brady and his anti-2nd Amendment supporters, until "after" the elections.
Finally, Hitler never "loosened" gun laws for "anybody." A few people of means or privilege managed to squirrel away a pistol or shotgun without getting caught, but if the "Thousand Year Reich" has lasted more than the 12-13 years that it did, Hitler and his police state thugs would have gotten them too. The same held true for all of the occupied countries and regions.

I thought "He has not signed a single law restricting gun rights in any way." was pretty clear. You can parse words as much as you like but you can't name a single federal law passed under Obama that restricted gun rights. A database of gun purchases in 4 states sounds more like a state program but if there's some federal law that Obama signed targeting those 4 states please enlighten me.
