A 2-year-old boy is said to be in stable condition this weekend after shooting himself in the face just a few days earlier. He reportedly found the gun in his mother's purse.
The boy’s father, Richard Harris, was outraged about the carelessness displayed by Owen's mother in leaving her firearm where their son could so easily find it.
“Who leaves loaded guns around with 2- or 3-year-old kids?” Harris, 25, said in an interview with the Tribune-Review on Friday. “I have guns in my house, but they're locked up.”
Both Owen’s mother and stepfather were home at the time of the shooting. As was his 3-year-old sister, who thankfully emerged from the incident unscathed.

Owen was rushed to a local hospital and then flown to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh before he was finally stabilized at some point on Friday.
“It appears as though the incident was just a tragic accident,” Trooper Stefani Plume said in a press release.
“They're saying it's still up in the air,” Richard said of Owen's condition. “He has a long road ahead of him. But I guess he's doing all right for what happened to him. There's no sugarcoating it. He's definitely hurt badly.”
While police don’t foresee any charges being filed against Owen's mother, Fayette County District Attorney Jack Heneks left the door open when he insisted that the shooing remains under investigation.
