18-Year-Old Shoots Stepfather After Accusing Him Of Assaulting Mother

An 18-year-old Houston man shot his stepfather on Sunday after accusing him of assaulting his mother, reports KHOU. 

The Houston Police Department said that John Sebastian Resendiz-Gonzalez shot Juan Resendiz, 48, at about 12:35 a.m. inside an apartment he shared with his wife and stepdaughter. 

Resendiz-Gonzalez opened fire after accusing his stepfather of physically assaulting his mother. Resendiz, who was shot as he walked across the room, ran into his stepdaughter’s room to protect himself. The shooter then fired at least one shot into the room. 

Resendiz was shot in the chest and abdomen, according to the Houston Chronicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Resendiz-Gonzalez was taken into custody and confessed to shooting his stepfather, according to KHOU. He now faces a murder charge.
