'It Was Pretty Scary': Detroit Man Punches 3-Year-Old Daughter's Killer In Court (Video)

| by Emily Smith

In a moment of rage, a grieving father in Detroit lashed out at the man convicted of killing his 3-year-old daughter Jamila (video below).

Dwayne Smith had been in court to read the victim impact statement when he assaulted Clifford Thomas, reported.

Smith was watching the sentencing of Jasmine Gordon, Jamila’s mother, and her boyfriend Thomas when he suddenly lashed out.

In the video, Smith can be seen rushing through the courtroom and punching Thomas in the back of his head.

Security officers then attempt to pull the two apart.

“It was pretty scary,” John McWilliams, Gordon's lawyer, told the Detroit Free Press. “I’m glad nobody was seriously hurt."

The 3-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital last September and died there. She had bruises on her head and chest that were consistent with abuse, which led police to rule the death a homicide.

Both Gordon and Thomas were convicted in connection to Jamila's death.

Gordon was sentenced to up to 15 years for involuntary manslaughter and up to 25 years for first-degree child abuse. Thomas was sentenced to up to 15 years for involuntary manslaughter and one to two years for resisting a police officer.

Smith was forbidden from returning to court following the incident, but was not charged with an offense.
