Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit against Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, in which she claimed he sexually harassed her.

The former anchor was fired from the news network in June after being with the company since 2006. She began her career with the company on "Fox and Friends" after coming from CBS, before getting her own program in 2013.

“I have strived to empower women and girls throughout my entire career,” Carlson said in a statement, Daily Mail reported. “Although this was a difficult step to take, I had to stand up for myself and speak out for all women and the next generation of women in the workplace. I am extremely proud of my accomplishments at Fox News and for keeping our loyal viewers engaged and informed on events and news topics of the day.”

In the lawsuit, Carlson claimed that Ailes made several sexual advances toward her over the years. In the fall of 2015, during a meeting to discuss her concerns about the way she was being treated, Ailes reportedly propositioned her for a sexual relationship.

“I think you and I should have had a sexual relationship a long time ago and then you’d be good and better and I’d be good and better,” Ailes reportedly said, The New York Times reported.

Carlson refused Ailes advances, prompting him to reduce her salary and appearances. The suit claimed that her refusal to engage in a relationship with Ailes is what cost Carlson her job.

The suit also claimed that Ailes called Carlson a “man hater” and said she needed to learn to “get along with the boys.”

Fox News has not responded to the controversy.
