Debra Denison Allegedly Killed Grandchildren, Herself in Apparent Murder-Suicide

Debra Denison picked up her 2-year-old and 6-month-old grandsons from daycare, shot and killed the children with a .38-caliber handgun, and then turned the gun on herself, according to Connecticut State Police.

At 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday evening, state police issued an Amber Alert when Brenda Perry reported that her sons had been picked up by their grandmother but that the three could not be located. The Amber Alert included Denison’s license plate number and stated that Denison was “bipolar and has medical conditions.”

Around 9:30 p.m., police received a call about a suspicious vehicle that matched Denison’s white minivan parked near Foxwood’s Lake of Isles golf course. The three were found inside the vehicle, and EMS responding to the scene declared all three dead from apparent gun shot wounds.

Police say there was a suicide note inside the vehicle, but the family has not disclosed its contents. Denison has a criminal conviction for reckless driving from 2003 but no other Connecticut police record, according to the Connecticut Judiciary website.

Co-owner of Kidds and Co. Daycare Christine O’Hare said the grandmother had picked the children up before and that she had been notified Denison would pick them up that day. Tuesday was Alton’s 2nd birthday, and Denison was supposed to bring him home to open presents.

"I wanted him to come home and play with his new toys and have a good day," mother Brenda Perry told WVIT-TV.

Tuesday night, she posted the following message on Facebook after the cancellation of the Amber Alert: "God has two beautiful angels helping him now."
