Rep. Tim Huelskamp appeared on the Family Research Council's "Washington Watch" radio show on Feb. 12 to push his Marriage Protection Amendment.

According to Congress.gov, the amendment, "[d]efines marriage in the United States as consisting only of the union of a man and a woman. Prohibits either the U.S. Constitution or the constitution of any state from being construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents of marriage be conferred upon any other union."

"I think there is so much chaos created not only by the courts, but misunderstanding because of media and numerous other things, that folks are confused by what a marriage is,"  the Republican from Kansas told "Washington Watch" host Tony Perkins, reported RightWingWatch.org (video below).

Huelskamp went on to discuss heterosexual marriage and claimed it needs to be protected, even though no court has ruled against it.

"We don't have strong marriages and don't protect the traditional basis for marriage, it harms everyone again, particularly our young children," claimed Huelskamp.

“So now is the time when courts are trying to rule and might decide to redefine or undefine marriage, it is critical not just for individuals and for families, but for society as a whole to make certain we protect marriage and families,” added Huelskamp.
