During an appearance on "The Janet Mefferd Show" today, New Mexico State Senator Bill Sharer (R) told the radio host that he opposed gay marriage, but some of his fellow lawmakers do not.

"I have introduced bill to clarify that marriage is between one man and one woman. Others have introduced bills to clarify that marriage is for any two, uhh, any two things that want to get married, I guess," said Sharer (audio below), noted

According to the Associated Press this week, Sharer is leading a Republican effort to file a lawsuit against the issuance of gay marriage licenses in New Mexico because clerks in Bernalillo County are marrying gay couples, even though the state does not recognize gay marriages.
