Two major frozen treat companies appear to be competing for the love of everyone with a sweet tooth after announcing that they’ll both be giving away free products to welcome in warmer weather across the country.

Participating Dairy Queen locations are giving away free small vanilla ice cream cones on Monday, March 16 to celebrate 75 years in business. On Friday, Rita’s Italian Ice will also be giving away free sweet treats in celebration of the first day of spring.

Despite it appearing that the two major frozen treat companies are trying to outdo one another, USA Today reports that Rita’s has actually been running the free Italian Ice campaign for 23 years. Last year, 1.2 million cups of the frozen snack were given away in a nine-hour period.

If you’re looking ahead at your ice cream calendar, you can also mark your calendars for free ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s on April 14 and, in keeping with their yearly tradition, free Haagen-Dazs at some point this year.
