A former girlfriend of Levi Strauss heir Daniel S. Haas is suing him for allegedly promising to pay her $300,000 to abort his child then refusing to hand over the money her after she went through with it.

Christiana A. Helm, 45, claims she was worried about having an abortion because of her age, but Haas threatened her and even struck her across her bare stomach. According to the complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Haas didn’t want a child to impede upon his freedom to take long surfing trips in South America or ski-trips in Lake Tahoe.

“Haas suggested that plaintiff take the 'morning after pill.' Plaintiff did not elect immediately to terminate the pregnancy because she wanted time to consider her options. What was weighing heavy on plaintiff's mind was that this could be the last time that she could ever conceive,” the complaint states.

In 2012, she served Haas with a paternity action. That’s when he allegedly promised her $300,000 within 24 hours of providing him with evidence that she had terminated her pregnancy between Sept. 7, 2012, and Sept. 14, 2012.

Helm says that she was intimidated into agreeing to the abortion. She claims Haas promised a custody battle if she had the baby and said the Haas family would spare no expense to make her sorry for filing the paternity action.

Helm believes Haas acted in response to family pressure.

"Based upon the Haas family stature, and Haas' desire not to offend, distance or otherwise disenfranchise himself from his family (and monthly income stream), Haas was under ever increasing pressure to take affirmative action to end the relationship with plaintiff and end her pregnancy," the claim states.

The suit seeks $307,500 in medical expenses and compensatory damages and additional punitive damages for fraud, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, and intention infliction of emotional distress.
