A hotel in England fired its head chef after he wrote on social media, in the middle of a heated argument, that it was his "personal favorite" thing feed meat to vegan customers.

Littleover Lodge Hotel said they terminated 30-year-old Alex Lambert after vegans who had read his social media posts complained to the hotel, The Telegraph reports.

The vegan activists argued that Lambert violated the human rights of those customers whose beliefs he allegedly failed to respect.

“He should not be allowed to work with food again,” one user wrote on the hotel’s Facebook page. “The trust that we put into restaurants and chefs as paying customers has been completely abused.”

Yet Lambert argued back that he hadn’t actually meant what he’d written. He said it was a “stupid comment” provoked by a “militant vegan” who insinuated he was a bad father.

“It started as a post I had made that essentially said, 'How do you know if someone is a vegan? Don’t worry, they will tell you,'" he explained. “That was in relation to a customer who had come in and was telling everyone they were vegan, it’s much healthier and better for them and anyone that eats meat is wrong.”

The post rubbed one vegan the wrong way, and she began fighting with the man.

“[She said] I should go get heart disease and I will be responsible for the death of my daughter by feeding her animal products,” Lambert said. “I lost my temper, which I think is understandable given her comments, and said something completely stupid with the sole intention of p---ing her off. That is basically all it was.”

After investigating further, the hotel confirmed he was telling the truth.

“We have investigated all accusations against Mr. Lambert and found no evidence suggesting that any of these practices have taken place within this hotel,” said a post on the hotel's Facebook page. “However, due to the comments made by Mr. Lambert regarding specific dietary requirements the company has decided to terminate his employment which has been done forthwith.”

The decision pleased many vegans, who applaud the hotel for its swift action.
