Florida Prosecutor Under Fire For 'Crack Hoes' Facebook Post

| by Emily Smith

Assistant State Attorney Kenneth Lewis is facing backlash for a controversial Facebook post on his personal page.

“Happy mothers day to all the crack hoes out there,” the post reads. “It’s never too late to tie your tubes, clean up your life and make a difference to someone out there that deserves a better mother.”

Judicial watchdog Dana Jackson said she was shocked by Lewis’ comment.

“He’s a public official and he needs to be reminded of that,” Jackson said. “He’s paid to prosecute and keep evil off the streets not to degrade mothers.”

When asked to comment on the post, Lewis said only that it was meant to be an inspirational message to “do the right thing."

In response to the uproar, Ninth Circuit State Attorney Jeff Ashton released a press statement. He noted that while he does not agree with Lewis' political sentiments, political speech is protected under the first amendment and he will not police private thoughts or views of those under his employ.
