After threatening to take a panhandler to jail, two Florida deputies decided to take the woman on a grocery shopping trip.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputy Jessica Dillon and Deputy Chris Rose discovered the woman asking for money so she could feed her family, reports KITV. They asked her to move on, because panhandling is illegal in the county.
Later that day, the two deputies stopped by a convenience store and overheard the panhandler on the phone. The woman had been telling the person on the other line that she hadn’t made any money for food.
“We both immediately said, ‘We need to do something for this young lady,’” Rose said.

Instead of giving the woman a few dollars, the deputies decided to take the woman grocery shopping at Wal-Mart. They purchased meat, chicken and tortillas so that the woman’s children wouldn’t go hungry.
“She was so thankful,” Dillon said. “She just kept thanking us.”
The bill came to about $70. In return, the woman thanked the deputies endlessly.
Dillon said that the best part of the experience was getting a “thank you” from a grateful person.
