Flight Attendant Under Fire For Taking A Photo With Plane Engine

Ericka Paige Diehl, a flight attendant with Spirit Airlines, is under investigation for taking a photo while sitting on the engine well of an airplane at Chicago O'Hare International Airport while passengers boarded the plane.

Though it’s not clear if Diehl was violating the airport’s policy by standing on the tarmac, some passengers were so upset about her presence there that they contacted ABC Eyewitness News about her actions. In turn, ABC called Spirit Airlines to ask them about the photos Diehl took, which were posted on her Facebook. Spirit Airlines stated that "the activity portrayed in the photo absolutely goes against Spirit policy."

Sylvester Pittman, a former flight attendant who is now an aviation consultant, said those types of engine photos are commonplace amongst flight crews. "I have a picture in a jet engine, and pretty much everybody that I know that has been a flight attendant... it's just one of those things that we like to do," Pittman told ABC News.

Though it’s unclear what kind of disciplinary action Diehl might face, if any, other flight crew members have rallied behind her by posting photos of themselves near the engine using the hashtag “stewsforerika.”
