A first grade student from B.T. Bullock Elementary School in Sanford, North Carolina, will be charged with attempted assault and disorderly conduct for allegedly trying to attack a teacher with a pair of scissors on Nov. 16.

Although the student’s name and age haven’t been released, deputies told WTVD the student threw classroom items in an apparent attempt to damage the school’s computers. The child was then restrained and removed from the class. Lee County Schools praised how the teacher reacted.

“The teacher and the students in the classroom were safe and uninjured. The teacher followed the correct procedures to remove students from the classroom to ensure their safety and immediately elicited the help of administration and the school resource officer to assist,” they said in a statement to WNCN. “At no time was there a threat to the rest of the school community.”

The student’s charges will be filed through the North Carolina Juvenile Justice system. It’s unclear what type of disciplinary action the school will administer.
