Bob Carter, the father of pop stars Nick and Aaron Carter, passed away unexpectedly on May 16.
The elder Carter was 65 years old, reports TMZ. He died in Florida during the evening, and while there is no official information about the cause of his death, 29-year-old Aaron reportedly tweeted that his father was found unconscious, although he deleted the social media post soon after.
"My heart is [completely] shattered I'm in shock and I loved my dad so much," the younger Carter posted on Twitter alongside a picture of the two together.
Sources told TMZ that the family believes Bob Carter died of a heart attack. On the night of his death, he complained of chest pains and twitching in his arm. He also reportedly had been working around the house and started experiencing the chest pain when he was outside in the sun.

The Carter family has experienced a number of public hardships, from sister Leslie Carter dying due to an overdose in 2012 to family fights over money and other issues that at one point led Nick and Aaron to cut their mother, Jane, out of their lives, according to the Daily Mail.
"It hurts," Aaron told ABC in 2005 after his mother shared gossip about him to the media. "A mother doesn't go on TV and trash her son. I just want her to love me, you know? I just want her to be my mom. Is that too much to ask for?"
It is unknown whether Nick and Aaron were on speaking terms with Jane, although sources told TMZ that the whole family was on good terms with Bob at the time of his passing.
