Father’s Day can be difficult for those who have lost their fathers, but for Cindy McKay, this year was different.
When McKay was 10 years old, she was told her father had died and shown his obituary, WDAM reported. Last year, McKay, from Waysneboro, Mississippi, found someone with her father’s name, Bruce Edward McCarty Senior, on Facebook.
"I messaged him and asked him if he was related to anyone in my family," McKay told WDAM. "I told him who my father was, and if he knew him to tell him that I was his daughter.”
It turns out McKay had found her long-lost father. "For 25 years, I thought he was dead," said McKay. "He thought all this time that I wanted nothing to do with him."

McCarty, a truck driver, drives through Laurel, Mississippi, every week to catch up with his daughter at a Huddle House diner since they found each other. This year was the first time McKay was able to celebrate Father’s Day with McCarty. His birthday also falls on June 21.
"When you have never had that father's love, you just don't realize how wonderful it is," McKay tearfully told reporters.
She has advice for people seeking a lost parent.
"I love my daddy. Don't ever give up on hope on those that you have lost," said McKay." They could be out there looking for you just like you were looking for them."
