While a soldier was deployed in Afghanistan, his now ex-girlfriend decided to sell his beloved dog. After the new owners initially refused to give the dog back, reports are saying that they have now agreed to return the Shiba Inu back to his original owner.
Earlier this week, Opposing Views reported that while Robert “Robby” Gabbert was deployed in Afghanistan back in March, his now ex-girlfriend sold his dog because she did not want to take care of it anymore. The three-year-old Shiba Inu named Baxter was put on Craigslist and purchased by a military family nearby. When Gabbert discovered that his beloved dog had been sold, he wanted to get it back and after help from people on social media, he was able to track down the new owners. Unfortunately, that family was initially unwilling to return the dog.
"They keep saying they have children that are attached," Robby’s mother Karen Fraley told KOAA. "Well my child is attached to the dog. Just because he's older doesn't mean he's not my child.”
Following reports that the family refused to return the dog to Gabbert, supporters set up a Facebook page called “Help Bring Baxter Home” to assist the soldier in getting his dog back. Now, as KOAA reports on their Facebook page, both dog and owner will soon be reunited.
Popular VideoThis young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.
“We just got word from organizers of the "Help Bring Baxter Home 2014" Facebook page that they have the family's word that Baxter will be returned to Robby,” wrote KOAA on their Facebook post. “They are still reaching an agreement, but the Facebook page has been removed at the family's request.”
The soldier’s ex-girlfriend has yet to speak out about why she sold the dog in the first place, but regardless, Gabbert will soon be reunited with his best friend.
