On Aug. 1, Skylar Sue Liston was at the birthday party of a family friend when she wandered off as dozens of other attendees watched the 9-year-old birthday boy cut his cake at the family’s Windsor, Colorado, home.
The 4-year-old girl climbed into an above-ground pool and drowned. Her family was just 30 feet away, KDVR reported.
Now, Skylar’s family is seeking help with her funeral costs. “We are looking for hope, support, faith, anything that can possibly help us in this desperate time,” wrote Skylar’s aunt Haleigh on an online fundraising page.
“With such an unexpected accident that took her from us, you can imagine even the smallest amount of financial help can make the biggest difference.” In a single day, more than $7,500 was raised, close to the family’s $10,000 goal.
Neighbor Henry Longoria, who has a similar pool and six children, was stunned by Skylar’s death. He said he keeps the pool behind gates. “No one is allowed back there unless me or my wife is back there,” he said.
“I can’t even imagine it being one of my kids.”
Skylar turned 4 just days before she drowned. “She impacted every life that she encountered in the most awesome and bright way,” Haleigh wrote. “She was truly a gift and has now gained her wings.’
