A former McDonald’s employee has received a sentence of at least 29 months in jail after he spit in a cop’s sandwich.
Dalton Ursulean pleaded no contest to placing harmful objects in food last month, according to the Huffington Post, which also reported that Ursulean’s spit was considered a harmful object because he tested positive for the hepatitis C virus, according to the Iron Mountain Daily News. The officer has tested negative for the disease.
CBS Detroit noted last month that authorities say Ursulean spit in a sandwich ordered by an officer from the Oscar Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, located in Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula.
The 24-year-old Urselean’s criminal history includes felony convictions for assault/resisting and obstructing a police officer, according to court records. He also has a conviction for delivery of Vicodin.

Ursulean’s attorney said his client now recognizes that his actions were “dumb and disgusting,” according to the Iron Mountain Daily News.
“He’s made poor choices in his past, but he’s also grown up,” Geoffrey Sparks said. “He now knows what it takes to succeed.”
Ursulean apologized to the victim, the court, and his family when he was given a chance to address the court.
“I’m sorry for all this that's transpired here,” Ursulean said. “I want to get out there and actually do right.”

The victim wasn’t present at the sentencing hearing, but has reported feeling “nauseating tremors” and a fear of blood-borne pathogens since the incident, according to Dickinson County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Carl Downing. The victim wanted Ursulean to serve a lengthy jail sentence.
