A Mexican father crosses the U.S. border every day with his children to take them to school in America.
KENS reports that Jose Luis Dominguez takes his 7-year-old son Luis and 8-year-old daughter Kayla across the border with him every day across the Hidalgo International Bridge so they can attend school in the U.S.
Dominguez claims he does this so his kids can be safe and get a quality education away from the drug violence in Mexico.
“I bring them to school every day. We cross the border so they can have a better education,” Dominguez said. “Because schooling is better here than in Mexico."
Many Mexican parents have been able to enroll their kids in U.S. schools, either through charter schools or tuition programs. In most situations, all they have to do is provide a physical address in the United States, regardless of whether or not they actually live there.
“It’s ugly across the border,” Dominguez said. “Kids are being abducted. It’s better here [in the U.S.], safer, knowing that nothing will happen.”
According to D Magazine, of the roughly 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States, 1.4 to 1.6 million are estimated to be in Texas. That's 4 percent of the population nationally.
