Weld County, Colorado Trying to Become 51st State

Commissioners in Weld County, Colo., voted unanimously on Monday to allow voters to decide this November if the county should secede from the state of Colorado and become the 51st state.

According to KDVR, the ballot question will be: “Shall the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, in concert with the county commissioners of other Colorado counties, pursue becoming the 51st state of the United States of America?”

Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway (R) told KUSA that more than 85 percent of residents support the effort to break away and create a new state called “North Colorado” (video below).

However, Weld County cannot become the 51st state without approval from the Colorado legislature, Colorado governor and the U.S. Congress.

Other counties in Colorado are trying the same move, including Cheyenne, Sedgwick and Yuma.

Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan and Washington counties are talking about joining the new state.

Apparently, the rural counties want less gun control — 10 clips instead of 15, basic background  checks — and more drilling for oil and gas (fracking).

Fracking has reportedly poisoned well water in several states, noted Mother Jones.
