Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper Says He Drank Fracking Fluid
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) recently told a Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources that he drank a glass of fracking fluid to demonstrate safety advances by the oil and gas industry.
According to the Washington Times, Hickenlooper said the fluid was given to him by the oil company Halliburton and was made of “ingredients sourced from the food industry.”
“We did drink it around the table, almost ritual-like, in a funny way,” Hickenlooper said. “They’ve invested millions of dollars in what is a benign fluid in every sense.”
Gov. Hickenlooper also praised Halliburton during his State of the State address last month. “When the Environmental Defense Fund and Halliburton stood together in Colorado in support of the state’s new fracking disclosure rule, other states took notice. It’s another reason why we believe so passionately in the power of partnership and collaboration.”
Fracking is the process of injecting water, sand and other chemicals into the ground to cause a pressurized explosion to release fuel from rock formations.
Fracking has been criticized by environmental groups in the U.S. because it can contaminate ground water and even cause flames to come out of water faucets. This was filmed in the documentary 'Gasland' (video below) a few years ago.

I'm sure that was bourbon to
I'm sure that was bourbon to be used while "fracking" his wife and then constituents...
No one thinks there's a reason that previously the gas companies have kept the exact list of ingredients in fracking fluid as trade secrets?
What they have released can be found on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_fracturing#Fracturing_fluids
one of the major ingredients listed is ethylene glycol - car antifreeze. This is a fairly dangerous poison, as further evidenced by the FDA requiring special processes and fees for automotive shops to dispose of it these days.
Perhaps it would be a good thing if he actually DID drink some of that...
The Governor's politicizing
The Governor's politicizing of "fracking fluid" and the media jumping on it , is totally minimizing the whole controversy with HVHF. First of all the laws have been put into place to allow the Gas companies exemption from the clean air and clean water act. Why? If it is so safe.( Courtesy of Dick Cheney and his "Energy Commission" in 2005 which consisted of Gas/Oil company executives and no one on the environmental side. This is called the "Halliburton Loophole" BTW Cheney has lots of "interests" in Halliburton , so he's become quite a rich man from their activities. ( Conflict of interest?)) Second, I don't know what "fracking fluid" Hickenlooper got from the company, but it is not the waste fluid that comes out of the ground and has the chemicals in it. He might want to do a little research instead of grandstanding. http://www.endocrinedisruption.org/chemicals.multistate.php
