The El Monte Police Officers’ Association took to Facebook to share an officer’s recent positive encounter with a family in need, and in just a few days, their post has gone viral.
Amidst a flurry of negative stories about police officers recently, the El Monte Police Officers’ Association was excited to share something positive happening with one of their officers and probably didn’t expect the post to go viral.
According to the association’s Facebook post, a woman was devastated after her purse was stolen and she realized that the gift cards she planned to spend on her young son on Black Friday were gone with the bag. Thankfully, one generous officer stepped up to help the woman and her child.
“With so much recent negative publicity about law enforcement, a little bit of positive for you all,” reads the Facebook post. “The woman in the photo had her purse taken from her at a Jack n The Box in El Monte. The woman had saved her gift cards throughout the year to spend on Black Friday on her son but was distraught after realizing they were in the purse and now gone. EMPOA member / EMPD Cpl. Salmon stepped up and purchased new gift cards out of his own pocket after the son consoled his mother, who was crying and telling her, ‘It's Okay mom!’ Despite his request to keep this silent, we urged and convinced Cpl. Salmon to allow us to post this. On behalf of the EMPOA, we thank Cpl. Salmon for his contribution and selfless act of kindness!”
Since being posted on Nov. 30, over 100 people have shared the story on Facebook, and it’s garnered over 1,200 likes. Cpl. Salmon is now receiving praise in the form of Facebook comments from people all over who have commended him for his generosity.
