Univ. of South Carolina Pro-Gay Student Group Holds 'Porn and Pizza' Event

| by Michael Allen

An University of South Carolina student group, the Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Straight Alliance (BGLSA), held a “Porn and Pizza” event on campus Tuesday night.

“If anyone is frightened by that title, the back door is still open. Let the puns begin," announced BGLSA President Mason Branham at the get-together.

The event included pizza, viewing gay and straight pornography, and a discussion of the porn by the students.

The event was supposed to educate and increase awareness about sexual health for heterosexual and homosexuals.

“Just to remind you, this week's meeting, Porn & Pizza, will be centered upon Sexual Health, NOT the promotion of adult entertainment (I know, I know, SO disappointing),” the BGLSA posted on Facebook.

The porn was viewed on an Internet hot spot, not on the campus Internet system.

“It’s a college campus, so there’s probably somebody in their dorm watching this on school Wi-Fi, so it’s not totally shut down, but we wanted an extra safety measure for BGLSA,” explained Branham.

Branham and Kaitlyn Jones lead an analysis of “case studies,” which included the gay and straight porn.

After the event, the group posted on Facebook, "Thank you, truly, to everyone tonight for being extremely mature. Our Porn and Pizza Meeting was an utter success! Hopefully everyone had fun and learned a little something too."

However, off campus, The American Spectator was skeptical of the event:

If BGLSA of USC wanted to appear serious, they wouldn’t have used pornography as a marketing ploy. If they wanted to authentically promote sexual health, they would have coordinated with the school’s health department to describe a holistic perspective of human sexuality.
