A history teacher at Schrade Middle School in Rowlett, Texas, was trying to teach lasso techniques, but ended up putting rope marks around a seventh grader's neck (video below).
According to WFAA-TV, the unidentified teacher asked for student volunteers. He then had the students run, while he tried to rope them.
"[The teacher] was visiting with the students, telling the students about how Cowboys would corral maverick steers back into the herd," said Garland Independent School District spokesman Chris Moore. "This is not something that we feel was malicious, it was not intent. Extremely unfortunate and extremely poor judgment."
The Garland Independent School District has suspended the teacher, who agreed to never use the lasso in class again.
The Rowlett, Texas Police Department may charge the teacher for causing injury to a child.
The student's parents told WFAA-TV that the bruises around their son's neck were worse on Tuesday.
