Summer Reading List for NJ Kids: Lesbian Sex & Gay Orgies

A school district in New Jersey is apologizing for a required summer reading list that included books that contained lesbian sex, a gay orgy and drug use.

“Some of the language is inappropriate,” said Chuck Earling, superintendent of Monroe Township Schools in Williamstown told Fox News Radio. “We were not trying to create controversy. We were just trying to get students to read.”

One book, "Norwegian Wood," featured a lesbian sex scene between a 31-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl, reports the Gloucester County Times. The other book is called “Tweak (Growing up on Methamphetamines),” which had the drug use and gay orgy.

The district has now pulled the books off the list, just a tad late though -- the fall school year begins in a few days.

“There were some words and language that seemed to be inappropriate as far as the parents and some of the kids were concerned,” Earling said.

Earling said the reading list was concocted by a committee of teachers, librarians and school officials.

“They read the books,” he said. “They didn’t feel it was inappropriate based on the language that’s used, common language used on the street.”

The superintendent said only about a dozen people actually complained. He also said students see way more graphic images on TV and in the movies.
