Shafer Rupard, a senior at Cherryville High School in North Carolina, claims that she was asked to leave the school prom because she wore skinny jeans.
Rupard says she had barely arrived at the Cherryville Golf & County Club last Saturday night when a teacher asked her to leave (video below).
Popular VideoCongress just passed a drug testing law that has a lot of people outraged. Do you think this is wrong?
"In a way it's kind of a slap in the face," Rupard told WBTV. “The teacher tapped me on the shoulder and said she had a problem with what I was wearing. I thought it was because of the hat or the leather jacket and I was like, 'Well I’ll take those off' and she was like, 'No, it’s the pants.'”
Rupard's mother Shawn McQuaige approved of her daughter's red skinny jeans before she left for the prom.
“It’s just the way she’s always been and she wanted to feel comfortable in her own skin,” McCuaige told WBTV.
Rupard added, "We looked in the student code of conduct book and there isn't a dress code at all."
McCuaige showed the school's assistant principal the conduct book.
"She looked at it with me and she said, 'You know what you're right there is no dress code here,'" recalled McCuaige.
There have been no responses or apology from the school's principal, notes RawStory.com.
