Parents Say Teen Daughter Was Asked How Far She Would Go in Sex Ed Class

Parents of a 14 year-old girl are furious over how their daughter was embarrassed by questions in a sex ed class at Woodland Park Middle School in San Marcos, Calif.

The parents, who contacted 10News to publicize the embarrassing incident, asked the TV station not to reveal their daughter's name or theirs, lest she be embarrassed again.

The eighth grader claims that every student in her class was asked in class how far they would go sexually and then told to stand under signs that read: "smiled at, hugged, kissed, above the waist, below the waist, and all the way."

"To put them up in front of their friends to be humiliated or to be asked questions that I believe are personal, it's really none of the school's business," one of the teen's parents told 10News. "For the children to get that confused is just another reason why it shouldn't even be in the schools."

However, the parents didn't mention that the school gave them the option of opting their child out of the sex ed class.

"The parents sign permission slips for the class and can look at the curriculum prior. The purpose of the lesson was to open the lines of communication between parents and students about dating expectations," the school's principal told 10News.

The principal added that the sex ed assignment was from an area health clinic and has been used at the school for years.

According to a 2009 report by ScienceDaily.com, a study by The University of Texas School of Public Health found that "by age 12, 12 percent of students had already engaged in vaginal sex, 7.9 percent in oral sex, 6.5 percent in anal sex and 4 percent in all three types of intercourse."

"The study recommends that sexually active students also need to receive accurate and factual information and services related to STDs and pregnancy testing, as well as skills for future abstention and risk reduction for those who intend to remain sexually active."
