Car Backfire Causes School Lockdown in Haltom City, Texas

The Birdville Elementary School and Shannon Learning Center in Haltom City, Texas were both placed on lockdown for about an hour on Tuesday morning after a report of gunfire.

A Birdville Elementary School student claimed to have seen a teenager fire a gun in the air, reports CBS Dallas-Fort Worth.

However, a parent came forward and told police that he may have caused the loud bang that was thought to be gunfire.

Birdville Elementary School spokesperson Mark Thomas quoted the man as saying: "My vehicle backfired at that time.”

Thomas added: “The only thing that we can confirm at this point is we have a vehicle that backfired in the parking lot. There’s no confirmation that there were any guns at all or any gunshots fired.”

No gunman or any evidence of shot being fired around the campus was ever located, but many parents still took their kids home.
