Massachusetts State Police Discover 'Obamacare' Heroin

| by Emily Smith

Massachusetts state police seized 1,250 bags of heroin Friday with bizarre labels like “Obamacare” and “Kurt Cobain.”

That state police confiscated the bags at a traffic stop in Hatfield, Mass., according to the police department.

"During the stop, evidence of illegal narcotics led to a request for a State Police K9. Trooper David Stucenski and K9 Frankie located 1,250 individual bags of heroin in the vehicle," a police statement read.

A spokesperson for the department said that bags of heroin are often found sealed and stamped with branding so that the strain can be identified.

“I think it’s whatever the person decides to put on it,” Lt. Daniel Richard said. “So if the junkies who are buying them go, ‘Wow, that Obamacare stuff was really good’.”

Richard added that bags are often labeled with a variety of names, so these aren’t particularly unusual. Because he did not talk with the individuals, Richard said it is unclear why they chose these specific labels, though the names will be part of the investigation.

According to Politicker, Obama named drugs have become popular since his original election.

Four people were taken into custody during the stop and charged with narcotics violation.
