(MyFoxNY) NEWARK, N.J. – A man faces drug charges after allegedly smoking pot on a JetBlue flight to Newark, N.J.Airport police say the man claimed he had the marijuana for medicinal purposes.
Crew members from Flight 510 from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., say they became suspicious Monday when the man, identified as 43-year-old Adam Blumenkranz of Los Angeles, dropped a clear plastic bag in the cabin.
As the plane approached Newark the crew reported the man entered the lavatory. When he emerged, they say there was a strong smell of marijuana.

I fly a lot. Air travel would be so much more pleasant if we were allowed to smoke pot on a plane. And I certainly understand someone’s medical needs and appreciate how marijuana could help flight anxiety, airsickness, and trying to relax in a cramped coach seat.
But smoking – anything – hasn’t been allowed on most flights since 1988 and federal law has banned airplane smoking since 2000. So not only does Blumenkrantz face federal charges for possession of marijuana (that could net him 1 year in prison and a $1,000 fine) but also federal charges for smoking in an airport lavatory (that can earn the maximum $3,300 fine).
My advice? Brownies, dude, brownies…

Marijuana of course should be legalized, but this guy should have had marijuana in the brownie form or something that didn't cause smoke. No, he shouldn't get a year in jail but he should have been smarter about it.
