Man Drags Woman Behind His Car For Several Blocks

| by Michael Howard

A German man was arrested after allegedly tying a rope around a woman's neck and dragging her behind his car, causing severe injuries.

The 28-year-old victim was found lying in the street around 6 p.m. Nov. 20 after the rope became detached from the man's car. She was airlifted to a nearby hospital where she underwent an emergency operation. She has since been placed in a medically induced coma.

Doctors have described her as being in "acute danger," according to Express.

The shocking incident occurred in the small town of Hamelin, made famous by the ancient German folk tale, "The Pied Piper of Hamelin."

A 38-year-old man reportedly turned himself in to the police later that night, although he did not clarify a motive for the crime.

"But we suspect that relationship problems were behind the crime," police spokesperson Jens Peterson said, according to The Local.

Media reports indicate that the suspect had a past relationship with the victim, and that the two of them may have recently become reacquainted following a long split. They are both said to be of Kurdish descent.

An unnamed law enforcement official described the crime as an "act of revenge," Express reports.

Meanwhile, the small town of Hamelin is struggling to process the man's violent actions.

"The brutality and contempt with which this crime was carried out is horrifying. Everyone in the town is shocked," Hamelin spokesperson Thomas Wahmes said, according to The Local. "It is hard to believe that such an act of violence took place here, just a few streets away from the town hall."

It is expected that the man will be charged with attempted murder.
