Donald Trump has been sworn in, officially becoming the 45th president of the U.S. (video below).

On Jan. 20, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump joined former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama for tea at the White House. After their meeting, the Trumps joined the inauguration ceremony before the nation’s Capitol in Washington D.C., according to ABC News.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas swore in both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. The ceremony used Bibles of the president’s choosing -- his own childhood copy and former President Abraham Lincoln’s copy.

The ceremony was attended by former Presidents Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter. Former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush were unable to attend due to recent health ailments.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who had battled Trump during the contentious presidential election, was in attendance, seated next to her husband on the inauguration platform.

After being sworn in as president, Trump took to the podium to deliver his inauguration address.

“Today we are not merely transferring power from one party to another ... but we are transferring power from Washington D.C. and giving it back to you, the people,” Trump said, according to The Guardian.

The president blasted what he described as the Washington establishment, asserting that it had failed the broader public.

“The establishment protected itself but not the citizens of our country,” Trump said. “Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs … That all changes, right here, starting right now.”

During Trump’s speech, rain began to pour, prompting attendees to unfurl umbrellas while the president pressed on while his coat began to dampen. He described a policy of “America First.”

“Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength,” Trump continued. “I will fight for you with every breath in my body and I will never ever let you down. America will start winning again, winning like never before. We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth. And we will bring back our dreams.”

The president concluded with a reference to his campaign slogan: “We will make America strong again, we will make America wealthy again, we will make America proud again, and yes, together, we will make America great again.”
