Miracle Baby Survives After Already Being Pronounced Dead (Video)

| by Dominic Kelly

Doctors told brand new parents that one of their newborn twins was born dead, but then something pretty amazing happened.

Kate and David Ogg were excited to give birth to a set of fraternal twins, male and female, but when Kate went into labor prematurely at 27 weeks, doctors told them that their son Jamie was clinically dead.

“I’d carried him inside me for only six months – not long enough – but I wanted to meet him, and to hold him, and for him to know us,” said Kate Ogg on the Today Show in 2010. “We’d resigned ourselves to the fact that we were going to lose him, and we were just trying to make the most of those last, precious moments.”

Nurses placed the baby’s dead body on Kate’s bare chest so that the couple could say goodbye to their son, but as they held him there for over two hours, they started to notice signs that he was possibly still alive. Little Jamie gasped for air multiple times, although doctors and nurses assured the parents that it was just a reflex and not a sign of life. Still, both Kate and David, making contact with their baby, kept noticing that their baby boy was squirming around even more, and eventually he opened his eyes.

The couple called doctors into the room, and when they saw the baby for themselves, they were shocked to discover that he was in fact alive.

“We feel so fortunate,” said David Ogg. “We’re the luckiest people in the world.”

Now, the twins are 4 years old, and to this day, doctors say the boy’s survival was nothing short of a miracle. Months after the twins were born, Kate Ogg was surprised to discover that she got pregnant naturally after doing in vitro fertilization for her twins. When she had her healthy third baby, she did the same thing that she did with Jamie and held him on her bare chest, which is highly regarded in Australia and is called “kangaroo care.”

Kate and David say that when Jamie asks if he or his twin sister is older, they have the perfect answer.

“Technically, you’re two minutes older,” said Kate, “but Emily’s been alive longer.”
